TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - A Tucson woman is counting her blessings after surviving a freak accident inside Peppersauce Cave in the Santa Catalina Mountains, about 10 miles from Oracle.
Mona Blake set out with friends to explore the cave when an unexpected incident occurred.
"I like hit a slide and fell to the bottom and heard the most awful snap," said Blake. "And I was like okay, we're in trouble."
Blake embarked on the journey just over a week ago. While navigating the underground tunnels of Peppersauce Cave, she encountered a 15-foot slide drop. The fall resulted in a snapped tibia and a shattered fibula. Deep inside the cave, only one firefighter could reach her.
"He told her she had little choice but to crawl out with a broken leg," Blake said.
