APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - A vote was taken Wednesday night in Appleton about reinstating an ordinance to address the district’s truancy problem.
That ordinance would allow citations to be issued to students who are repeatedly absent from class.
At the city’s last meeting, an amendment was proposed that would allow for a four-semester trial period of the ordinance. However, no vote was taken.
At Wednesday night’s meeting, the committee decided to pass the ordinance and its amendments in a 3-2 vote.
Greg Hartjes, the superintendent of the Appleton Area School District, is hoping to alleviate some of the confusion over who this new policy is targeting.
