PHOENIX (AZFamily) — There’s renewed focus on gun safety laws after three recent incidents involving kids and firearms.

A Phoenix father, Irvin Ramos-Jimenez, was recently indicted after officers say his 9-year-old son grabbed his father’s loaded rifle and accidentally shot his 5-year-old daughter, killing her last June. Ramos-Jimenez is a convicted felon and not legally allowed to own a firearm.

On Monday, an 8-year-old brought a loaded 9mm pistol to class at Copper Basin K-8 in San Tan Valley. No one was injured.

On Tuesday, a gun went off inside a Tucson student’s backpack while at school.

“Ultimately, kids are going to act like kids,” said gun expert Barret Kendrick.
