Lipscomb Academy, a Christian school in Nashville, confirmed to The Tennessee Star that upper school students were not allowed to wear suit jackets and red ties on September 11 to mourn the assassination of Charlie Kirk, stating that the students did not have permission to wear clothing items that deviated from its dress code.
While the school initially told The Star on Tuesday that students were eventually granted permission to wear the formal clothing on a later date, the Lipscomb Academy spokesman confirmed under further questioning on Wednesday that this did not take place, and instead said the students voluntarily opted against wearing jackets and ties favor of planning a still-upcoming chapel service.
