MEMPHIS, Tenn. - New federal mandates for SNAP recipients could mean big changes for many families in the Mid-South.

New work requirements for people who use SNAP benefits are raising questions about who's most affected.

"If you are not working, then get a job," said Melanie Harris, a SNAP recipient.

The Tennessee Department of Human Services (DHS) is rolling out enforcements for new work requirements for SNAP recipients. The changes fall under President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

The new requirements apply to able-bodied adults between 18- and 65-years-old who do not have a disability and do not live with children under age 14.

State Rep. G.A. Hardaway (D-Memphis) said Tennessee already enforces work requirements for SNAP recipients.
