Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has rubbished suggestions Mark Nawaqanitawase should be overlooked for the Ashes tour after it emerged earlier this week that the Roosters star was set to return to rugby in 2027.

Nawaqanitawase was this year’s leading tryscorer in the NRL and was the favourite to win the Dally M Rookie of the Year Award before head office made him ineligible due to his experience with the Wallabies.

His freakish skills and strong work ethic have him as one of the leading candidates to earn a spot on the wing for the trip to the UK next month; however, there have been calls for Walters to overlook him given he is set to quit the sport next year.
