Drivers face an MOT shake-up in September and October with a big change set to be noticed. The Labour Party government has given the DVSA the power to change the way it conducts MOTs in a crackdown on so-called "ghost" plates.

September and October are the busiest times for MOT tests and with the rule change introduced earlier this year, it means motorists sitting tests before Christmas face seeing the change for the first time.

The DVSA states: "We’ve moved away from capturing just the number plate and recording that in MTS, and instead we want to get a photo of the whole vehicle in the testing bay.
