The NCAA transfer portal has created a roller coaster of emotion for college coaches since its inception a few years ago.

West Virginia and Marshall's football teams experienced major changes in that realm last offseason. Each added more than 70 new players to their rosters, many through the portal, and after losing pieces to the portal, too.

The NCAA announced last week the elimination of the spring transfer portal window.

A potential date for the newly sole portal window is Jan. 2-11, but it hasn't been signed off yet. Jan. 2 is the day after the College Football Playoff quarterfinal round.

Graduate students had previously been granted early entry into the portal, but will now have to wait as well. Players who enter the portal in that timespan aren't under any specific deadline to co
