EC notifies changed vote counting norms:Postal ballots to take priority, EVM’s final round to be halted until ballots counting are done; Bihar to implement first

The Election Commission issued a notification on Thursday informing about the changes in rules.

The Election Commission has changed the rules for vote counting. Now if there is a delay in counting postal ballots, EVM counting will be stopped. Also, if there are more ballots, counting tables will be increased.

Actually, on counting day, ballot counting starts at 8:00 AM while EVM counting is done at 8:30 AM. Until now, what would happen is that machine counting would finish early at many centers. While ballot counting took time.

According to the Election Commission's new rule, if ballot counting is pending, the last second round of EVM counting will be stopped. Ballot counting must be completed until then. The Election Commission issued a press note on Thursday giving this information.
