The City of Stirling is once again urging its residents to dispose of batteries safely after a fire recently broke out in a recycling truck in Carine.
The incident last week forced a kerbside collection truck to dump its load on the verge of a reserve after flames erupted in the back.
The city believes the fire was likely started by a lithium-ion battery, which are found in everyday items such as phones, toys, electric toothbrushes, and vapes.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished the blaze. City staff later completed a clean-up around the reserve, but the fire caused extensive damage to the Veolia truck.
The incident was nearly replicated the following day after a car battery was found in a kerbside recycling bin in Scarborough.
