A Community Prayer Vigil Tuesday evening attracted an estimated 500 people who filled the lawn of the Hamblen County Courthouse.
Appropriately, the chimes of nearby First Baptist Church toned for the hour leading into the service, which was followed by Contemporary Christian music by a praise band.
Many of them came to honor Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated almost two weeks ago.
Mostly, the prayer vigil was held to pray for all in the community.
The Rev. Dr. Dean Haun, pastor of First Baptist set the tone for the service.
“We are here as a community because we believe in the power of God, the power of prayer, the power of The Cross and the power of the Resurrection,” he said. “We believe in the power of The Lord Jesus Christ. He is our only hope.
