When Sofia and David Nolan set out to buy their first condo in downtown Toronto, they assumed parking would be a given. They both had cars and worked at opposite ends of the city. But as they toured pre-construction sales centres, they were shocked to learn that parking would cost them as much as $80,000 if it was available at all.
“We were told some one-bedrooms didn’t come with parking,” says Sofia as she stands with her husband outside their condo in The Well, the 1,700-unit mixed-use community at Front Street and Spadina Avenue. “In other cases, we’d be waitlisted for a spot even if we bought. Parking just didn’t seem guaranteed anymore.”
