A Davenport man was airlifted out of a Minnesota wilderness area after injuring himself with an ax, according to a news release from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.

The office said it received an SOS notification around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, a 1.1-million-acre expanse of Superior National Forest that stretches along Minnesota’s border with Canada, west of Lake Superior.

He was extracted from the area with the help of multiple local agencies
