Donald Trump will host Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the White House on Thursday, marking the first visit by the Turkish leader since 2019. The talks come at a sensitive moment as Trump has hinted that Washington could soon lift its hold on advanced fighter jet sales to Ankara.

During his first term, Trump’s administration ejected Turkey, a NATO ally, from the flagship F-35 programme after it bought Russia’s S-400 air defence system. US officials feared Moscow could gain access to F-35 secrets through Turkish systems.

But now Trump is signalling a reversal. “We are working on many Trade and Military Deals with the President, including the large scale purchase of Boeing aircraft, a major F-16 Deal, and a continuation of the F-35 talks, which we expect to conclude positively,”
