The Maharashtra transport department has penalised nearly 7,500 vehicles in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) between April 1 and August 25 for violating transport rules. According to a report by PTI, the crackdown targeted 7,152 taxis and auto rickshaws and 263 two-wheelers, with fines totalling Rs 1.63 crore, according to Bharat Kalaskar, additional transport commissioner and secretary of the MMR Transport Authority (MMRTA).
Officials told PTI that 1,752 of the penalised vehicles included app-based cabs, while Rs 3.88 lakh was collected in fines from 263 app-based motorcycles.

The department has also registered FIRs against some app-based aggregators at Azad Maidan, Samata Nagar and Amboli police stations for illegally operating private two-wheelers
