MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis mayoral candidate says his campaign office was vandalized this week by someone who left a hateful, threatening message.

State Senator Omar Fateh, who is challenging incumbent Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, says the vandal left a message that read "Somali Muslim - This warning is no joke." Fateh's campaign filed a police report on the incident on Wednesday.

The campaign says Fateh has received a "steady stream" of violent threats and hateful, racial and Islamophobic slurs on his emails and social media. They also say the state senator was on the so-called "hit list" of Vance Boelter - the man accused of murdering House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark - and claim he is being targeted by right-wing conservative media outlets.
