MAINE, USA — This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week, and it ends with National Seat Check Saturday, which is a day for parents, guardians, and caretakers to get free guidance on how to correctly install and use car seats.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death for children. In 2023, the administration says an average of two children under the age of 14 were killed in crashes. Another 345 were injured.

Here is a list of free car seat checks happening throughout the rest of the week:

Sept. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Topsham Fire Department at 100 Main St.

Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Windsor Town Office at 523 Ridge Road.

Sept. 27 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Gorham Fire Department at 270 Ma
