Registration is open for the annual Sawtooth National Recreation Area cleanup, a self-guided volunteer effort that will end Monday.
Environmental groups launched the event in 2020 in the wake of the COVID-19 recreation boom when the forest was “overwhelmed,” said Lexi Black, a community engagement associate for the Idaho Conservation League, one of eight agencies and organizations sponsoring the cleanup effort. Her organization arranges the event in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, Sawtooth Society, Idaho Trails Association, Sawtooth Interpretive and Historical Association, the Environmental Resource Center, Idaho Rivers United and Wood River Trails Coalition.
