The Mississippi Department of Education released school and district accountability grades Thursday morning showing a decrease in the number of schools earning a C or higher compared to last year.
For the 2024-2025 school year, 80.1% of schools and 87.2% of districts earned a grade of C or higher. Last year, during the 2023-2024 school year, 85.7% of schools and 93.9% of districts earned a grade of C or higher.
The latest scores mark the second consecutive year in which the number of schools and districts earning a C or higher has decreased. In 2022-2023, 87% of schools and 91% of districts earned a grade or higher.
In 2016, MDE set a goal that all Mississippi schools and districts receive at least a C rating. At that time, only 62% of both schools and districts met that goal.
