D.C. saw the region’s largest increase in people experiencing food insecurity in the past year, a group’s annual Hunger Report found.

The Capital Area Food Bank tracks hunger in the D.C. area. About 36% of households in the region experienced food insecurity in the past year, the food bank’s 2025 Hunger Report with the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago found. The figure was 32% last year.

The study also looked at where the need is greatest. Prince George's County had the most people experiencing food insecurity, followed by D.C. and Prince William County.
