SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - The Sumter County School Board announced Wednesday that it has hired a search firm to help find a new superintendent.

The former superintendent, William Wright, resigned effective immediately in August, two weeks into the start of the school year.

Wright’s attorney at the time said his sudden departure was due to personal reasons.

“It was just totally coincidental, and some things that are going on with his father that started developing in the summer, and so this was the first opportunity that he and the board had to nail down when and how he would depart,” his attorney, Montrio Belton, said in a statement.

The school board has hired BWP and Associates to conduct the search. The company specializes in finding superintendents, according to the board.
