BRAINERD — The Brainerd School Board will begin searching for a superintendent once again.

Board members agreed during their meeting on Monday, Sept. 22, to contract with the Minnesota School Board Association for the search.

The district’s contract with Superintendent Peter Grant expires June 30, 2026. Grant was hired as interim superintendent in July 2024, after an unsuccessful search to replace Heidi Hahn, who resigned earlier that year. Hahn’s resignation sparked an expedited search, resulting in nine applicants for the job. The School Board narrowed that pool down to two finalists, but a failed 3-3 vote to hire Kristine Wehrkamp Herman resulted in a board decision to search for an interim superintendent in the meantime before starting a fresh search the following year, hoping
