A train fatally struck a pedestrian near the Oxnard train station on Thursday.

The Oxnard Police Department and Oxnard Fire Department responded to the Oxnard Transit Center shortly before 9:15 a.m. after receiving a call that a train had struck a person on the tracks, said police Sgt. Martin Cook.

The train hit a woman several hundred feet north of the transit center platform, Cook said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her identity has been withheld pending next of kin, authorities said.

Oxnard police remained on scene, but authorities with Amtrak and Union Pacific Railroad are handling the investigation, authorities said.

No additional information about the train involved was provided as of the morning of Sept. 25.
