Ontario Premier Doug Ford says “enough is enough” when it comes to automated speed enforcement cameras in the province and on Thursday announced legislation to ban them when Queen’s Park reconvenes in late October.

Speaking in Vaughan, where he had the support of that city’s mayor and those from Barrie and Kitchener, Ford re-iterated his previous assessment of the speed cameras as “cash grabs” by municipalities.

Instead, Ford said, “practical and pro-active traffic calming measures” like roundabouts, speed bumps, raised crosswalks, curb extensions, and new flashing signs will reduce speed “without squeezing more money out of the taxpayers.”
