In reference to the Viewpoint submission published Sept. 14 and titled “It’s no wonder young people don’t run for office. The system seems stacked against them” I’d like to point out that North Tonawanda has had two mayors 30 or younger since 2010.
I agree with the author on the point that running for office is challenging. I say that as someone who, to date, has run seven successful campaigns. Each one has had its own difficulties.
However, I do not believe the system is stacked against young people. In this country, we are blessed to have the ability to run for a variety of positions once you are eligible to vote. You can even run for the New York State Assembly or Senate at age 18.
