AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - The Natural Resources Council of Maine released a report Thursday morning that details what they call harmful cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency.
The report, titled “Damaging Maine,” is in response to the U.S. House Appropriations Committee’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year.
The proposal cuts 23% from both the E.P.A.’s workforce and general funding, which will be more than two billion dollars and over 1,200 employees.
The N.R.C.M. says this will be drastic for Maine’s clean air and water.
They say it will limit the number of contaminated industrial sites the state can clean up and how much general scientific research can be done. They add that it’s harmful for the health of Mainers, particularly children, and can ultimately have an economic imp
