Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov suffered a potentially serious injury to his right leg during practice on Sept. 25. With the regular season starting in 11 days, his status is unknown.

"It will get looked at today. I'll have a better answer tomorrow," Florida coach Paul Maurice said.

The Panthers already will start the season - and defense of their back-to-back Stanley Cup championships - without fellow forward Matthew Tkachuk . He will miss at least the first two months after undergoing surgery Aug. 22 to repair a torn adductor muscle, an injury that occurred while he was playing for Team USA in February 2025.
