Jackson State coach T.C. Taylor, who once played for the Tigers from 1998–2001, is well acquainted with the tension when these programs meet.

“This is like, they don't like us, we don't like them type feeling,” Taylor said.

The animosity extends even musically between the marching bands. There will be a longer 25-minute halftime break for Southern’s Human Jukebox to battle Jackson State’s Sonic Boom of the South.
