WASHINGTON — Hunger and food insecurity continue to grow in the DMV, impacting 820,000 in the area, a study from the Capital Area Food Bank released Thursday suggests.
The food bank report, based on a survey of 4,000 people in the D.C. area, described the rates of hunger in the Washington, D.C. area as "extremely elevated" while warning that food insecurity was "deepening in severity."
In the D.C. area 36% of respondents reported that they had a difficult time accessing food between May 2024 and May 2025. A negligible change from the 2024 report, which showed a similar 37% of respondents experiencing food insecurity. The 2023 report had a lower 32%.
