ANDERSON, Texas (KBTX) - A new chapter is beginning inside the Grimes County Jail as officials relaunch a faith-based program aimed at offering inmates and staff an opportunity for healing, reflection, and hope.

The initiative, led by local chaplains and supported by Sheriff Don Sowell, brings weekly worship services and ministry classes into the jail for the first time since before the pandemic. Officials say it is part of a broader effort to provide spiritual support and encourage rehabilitation behind bars.

Sheriff Sowell said creating space for faith has been part of his vision since the jail opened in 1998.

“I want the inmates here that are incarcerated in our jail to have the opportunity to have a church in the facility,” Sowell said. “When they come in here, I want them to get
