Former Liberal MP Michael Sukkar has stepped back into the private sector after being booted from parliament at the last election, joining home builder Simonds Group as a non-executive director.

The 44-year-old started his career as a tax lawyer at law firm Ashurst, but has made the switch to the ASX-listed home builder, supposedly after learning the tricks of the trade as housing minister in the Morrison government.

Sukkar’s political career was cut short earlier this year when he lost the seat of Deakin to Labor’s Matt Gregg off the back of a nationwide swing towards the government.
