AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The winds screamed in miles per hour. The damage was tallied in dollars. But the greatest cost of Hurricane Helene can’t be measured.

What was lost for many can never be replaced.

Before the storm tore through the CSRA, Steve Donehoo and his great-grandson, Izaac, were inseparable. Wherever you saw one, the other wasn’t far behind.

“Wherever you found Papa, Izaac was right up underneath him. If you saw Izaac, Papa wasn’t that far behind him,” said Michelle, Steve’s daughter.

Steve’s love stretched to each of his six great-grandchildren, but with Izaac it was magnetic.

“Can’t have one without the other,” Michelle said.

And nowhere was that bond stronger than by the water.
