ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A middle school student in Walton County and the student’s mother were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last week, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies recently opened an investigation into a student at Morgan County Middle School after learning the student had drawn images and written messages that “demonstrated a troubling interest in school violence,” the Walton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Wednesday.

Deputies discovered the student had allegedly “engaged in research and online activity consistent with a growing interest in school violence.”

Investigators also identified “several concerning materials and social media posts that raised additional red flags regarding the student’s mindset and intentions
