Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said on Fox News that the U.S. beef supply is “at its lowest already in 75 years” and warned prices are “very high for that reason.”
She also cautioned that a screwworm outbreak could further strain the market and “make it harder to get good prices for beef.”
The admission cuts against former President Donald Trump’s frequent claims that grocery prices are falling and that his administration has ended inflation. Rollins detailed USDA’s containment efforts, including the release of 80,000 sterile flies, deployment of 200 personnel in Mexico, and port shutdowns in May and July, but acknowledged consumers are already paying more at the grocery store and restaurants.
