WASHINGTON, D.C. – Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has directed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct a review into the safety evidence of mifepristone, the pill used for nearly two-thirds of abortions nationwide.

According to the FDA, only five deaths per one million users were associated with the drug since it’s approval in 2000.

It remains unclear if the FDA plans to impose any new actions on restrictions on mifepristone.
