The pending trial against Constantine “Dino” Panousopoulos, accused of bribing a former county assessor, currently hinges on an appellate court’s decision over whether wiretap recordings can be presented as evidence in the case.

In a suppression order filed June 27, U.S. District Judge John Hinderaker wrote that an FBI agent had “acted in reckless disregard for the truth in omitting certain information” when requesting the wiretaps. Under a fully accurate request, the FBI would not have been granted permission for the wiretaps, Hinderaker wrote – meaning the evidence was obtained illegally. ×
