WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WPRI) — The state of Rhode Island is investing nearly $2 million to renovate the Rhode Island Building at The Big E fairgrounds in Massachusetts.

The fair is the fourth-largest in North America and known for its food, agriculture, entertainment, and a stretch of road where all six New England states are represented with their own building.

In a unique arrangement, each state is responsible for owning and operating its building. The founder of the Eastern States Exposition envisioned that each one would showcase its community and pride.

Rhode Island was the last state to erect a building on the Avenue of States in 1957. At the time, the two-story structure cost about $150,000 to build. It's a replica of the Old State House, also known as the Colony House, in Newp
