The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Kauai County, effective through Friday afternoon.
Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible as a cold front stalls near Kauai today, forecasters said, bringing widespread showers.
“An approaching upper low will destabilize the atmosphere across this area and bring the potential for shower enhancement along with isolated thunderstorms that will continue through the day Friday,” said NWS. “Heavy rain lingering over the same areas on Kauai and Niihau may result in flash flooding.”
Forecasters said as the low-pressure system tracks toward the state, it will begin to bring colder air aloft, destabilizing the atmosphere today and Friday, increasing cloud coverage and shower activity.
