UISVILLE, Ky. — In the Valley Village community, many homeowners wake up and see the flue gas from the Mill Creek Generating Plant’s smokestack, which is located only blocks away.
It’s a coal plant operated by LG&E that has been supplying energy to Louisville residents since 1972.
Anna DeArhie Cook, a neighborhood resident since 1979, ponders the actual price of living near the coal plant.
“I didn’t think much of it until they started coming around people’s homes years ago,” she said. “They would give you a little bit of money for your car damage, or whatever. I guess it ate the paint off your car; that’s what I’ve been hearing. And so, I started thinking, ‘If it’s doing that to your car, what’s it doing to you?’”
Cook is one of several neighbors Spectrum News 1 spoke with about the ex
