SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) - Former Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the theft of money from the county for personal use, including drugs.
Wright pleaded guilty to three charges including conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, wire fraud conspiracy, and obtaining controlled substances by misrepresentation according to documents filed Thursday.
The investigation follows allegations of misuse of funds, nepotism, and fraudulent activity.
Wright resigned in May 2025, citing a health diagnosis as the reason.
