Grey County council isn’t ready to consider redeveloping its Grey Gables long-term care home in Markdale while the new Rockwood Terrace in Durham is still being built.

At its meeting on Thursday, county council decided against meeting a Monday deadline to notify the Ontario government of its readiness to potentially develop an additional 62 long-term care beds the province had previously allocated for Grey Gables.

Staff have instead been directed to request that the province maintain the 62-bed allocation to the county until 2027, which is when the new Rockwood Terrace is expected to be completed.
