CHARLES CITY, Iowa — The Cedar River in Floyd County is under consideration for designation as a state water trail, and community input is being sought through an online poll .
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) says that water trails serve as recreational corridors and routes on rivers and lakes. They offer a unique experience by reconnecting Iowans with their waterways' history, heritage, geology, fisheries, and wildlife.
The poll is open until 5 p.m. on October 9, with a goal of several hundred participants. The department encourages community members to share their perspectives.
The DNR says water trails also provide access to amenities such as riverside camping, wild spaces, picnic areas, restrooms, and watercraft rentals, supported by local, state, and federal
