When the Bruins ’ main group skated Thursday morning, Joonas Korpisalo was not on the ice with Jeremy Swayman and Michael DiPietro.

“Family matter, so he was excused today for the day,” coach Marco Sturm told reporters , noting he’s hopeful Korpisalo will be back with the team on Friday.

The Bruins goalie competition is a storyline to watch during camp. Swayman figures to be Boston’s No. 1 goalie once again, while Korpisalo and DiPietro will compete for the backup spot.

Korpisalo was Swayman’s backup during the 2024-25 season and went 11-10-3 with a 2.90 goals-against average and an .893 save percentage. The goalie made 24 starts and admitted after last season that while he likes playing for the Bruins, he’d like more playing time.
