A Chicago woman is warning others and calling for more protections after she said she booked a pet sitter through a popular app and things went terribly wrong.

Rachel Weaver recently took a trip to Cancun as a birthday gift to herself to celebrate turning 23.

Weaver said she looked on the app Rover, which she had used before, to find the right sitter for her toy poodle Benji. She settled on a person in Jefferson Park.

"I booked her Sept. 10. I visited her home," said Weaver. "I wanted to see where Benji would be laying his head at. So I came to her home and dropped him off there. I used her before, last year for 24 hours, no problem."

Two days into her trip, Weaver said she got a text from the sitter that Benji had somehow escaped from her backyard, which has a locked gate.
