BRISTOL TWP., Ohio (WKBN) -- Two local historical societies have launched a fundraising campaign to help restore a historic monument in the northwestern part of Trumbull County.
The 162-year-old marble Civil War monument, right in the middle of Bristol Township at the intersection of state routes 45 and 88, has huge historical significance for the town.
"It's a treasure, and it needs to be cherished," said Mary Ann Raidel, a Bristol Community Museum curator. "This monument has always been a focal point of our community."
It's the oldest Civil War monument in Ohio and the second oldest in the country. Erected in 1863, it honors the lives of 14 Union soldiers who died between 1862 and 1863.
