MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa —

A community is split over whether to attend Oktemberfest as Marshalltown deals with a Legionella outbreak .

Some residents say they feel safe and plan to go; others are staying away and urging caution.

Lesli Stabenow, who planned a family reunion around the festival, said the outbreak won’t change her plans.

"We've been planning it for a couple years," she said. "We’ve been planning forever to do the events here, so I’m really glad it's still taking place."

Others are more wary.

Resident Terrie Davis said she will skip the festival because of Legionella concerns and advised others to do the same.
