LA JUNTA, Colo. (KKTV) - The annual La Junta Tarantula Festival kicks off Friday!

The two-day event is taking place in Downtown La Junta.

There will be a parade, vendors, tarantula tours, an education pavilion, live art and more.

If you are interested in the best way to see the spiders as they migrate across Colorado, the city said the best time for viewing is an hour before dusk, between mid-September and into October

It is possible to see them even into early November, depending on the weather.

The city said to scout out areas where there are tarantula hawks, but to make sure you are respecting any private property boundaries during your search.

They said an ideal location is south of town on Highway 109 on the Comanche National Grassland.
