COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - November is pedestrian safety month, and according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), El Paso County is one of the top three counties that saw the most pedestrian fatalities.

They said that El Paso, Denver and Adams counties accounted for almost half of all pedestrian deaths last year.

CDOT said that since 2015, pedestrian deaths have increased 88 percent across the state, but El Paso is seeing an even more major increase, with 167 percent.

CDOT called this an alarming rise.

On Thursday, CDOT held an event at Memorial Park, encouraging everyone running or walking, bicyclists and drivers to keep safety in mind.

A local lawmaker said she and her husband were injured in a hit-and-run while they were walking their dogs in a crosswalk.
