SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A major change in gun legislation is going into effect today.
Open carry is now legal in the Sunshine State.
Earlier this month, a Florida Appeals Court ruled the state’s ban on openly carrying firearms is unconstitutional.
There was a 15-day delay to give time to appeal, and that is up today.
The change in open carry only applies to those legally allowed to possess a firearm, and does not change age restrictions for guns, meaning those under 21 still cannot carry.
Convicted felons, violent career criminals, or those who have domestic violence injunctions also still legally cannot carry.
