SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Local immigrant support groups are urging that a Suncoast man be released from federal custody in order to care for his gravely ill wife and family.

At a news conference in Sarasota, the wife of Eddy Macario joined the Tampa Bay Immigrant Solidarity Network to say he was an innocent man and the primary caretaker for their family; without him the family has struggled to get by.

“I ask from the bottom of my heart to ICE, to give my husband an opportunity, please let him be free, give him freedom,” Benita Cantero said.

The network’s goal is to end family separations through deportation and allow them to provide proper medical care for community members in need.
